An ignition coil steps the battery voltage up to the level a spark plug needs to fire. Each plug usually has its own coil. Have your registration ready and call 07961 404768 — we will check which coils fit your car.
What an ignition coil does
A spark plug needs far more voltage than the battery makes, and the ignition coil is the part that steps it up. The coil takes the battery voltage and turns it into the high voltage the plug needs to fire across its gap. On modern cars each plug usually has its own coil sitting directly above it.
A coil that is failing can stop its plug from firing properly. The engine can misfire, hesitate or run roughly, and the engine management light can come on. Coils fail one at a time, so a misfire on one cylinder can point at the coil for that cylinder.
How to find the right ignition coils
Ignition coils are matched to the engine, and to the shape and connector of the coil. Coils differ in shape and connector, and a coil made for another engine will not sit properly on the plug. Give us the registration for your ignition coil when you call. Or give us the make, model, year and engine. The number on the old ignition coil helps too, if you can read it.
If your engine is misfiring, the coils are one of the parts to look at — but so are the spark plugs. Describe what is happening when you call and we will point you at the ignition coil.

Yes. A failing coil can stop its plug from firing properly, and the engine can misfire, stutter or run roughly. The plugs or the fuel system can also be at fault, so ring us, describe what is happening, and we will point you at the ignition coil.
On most modern cars, each spark plug has its own coil — so a four-cylinder car has four coils. Older cars can have one coil shared between the plugs. Which your car has comes down to its engine — call 07961 404768 with your registration and we will check.
